13th Feb. 2014 - Apollo Bay Coastal Path, Clean Up Australia Day, Summer Litter Campaign, Free Camping on the Foreshore
Apollo Bay Coastal Path
As reported last week, the OCC has developed a detailed list of works for the path and foreshore areas out to Wild Dog Creek. Outdoor staff have been allocating significant time to this work over the last two weeks with more planned for the coming weeks. In particular we will be preparing areas with heavy weed infestations for replanting, later in the year, with indigenous species.
We will be assisted at planting time by Landcare's 'Townies' group who have done significant and fantastic work on the foreshore over the years. If you are interested in volunteering you will be made to feel really welcome at any of the Townies weekly Working Bees.
Landcare 'Townies' meet every Wednesday at 2pm for two hours and work on many interesting projects in our area.

Clean Up Australia Day
This year Clean Up Australia Day falls on the Sunday of the Apollo Bay Music Festival.
So this year Jess Dorney from Otway Health & Community Services has registered the Apollo Bay Foreshore as a clean-up site for Sunday the 16th of March 2014 from 10:00am. Well done Jess!
The OCC spends thousands of dollars each year picking up rubbish along the foreshore, but we don't get it all. If you care about our foreshore and can spare a couple of hours come along and help clean-up some of the litter left over from summer.
It is amazing how much can get done in a couple of hours with a few extra hands to help out.
You can register online at www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au or just turn up on the day. Meet next to the Surf Club.
Summer Litter Campaign
OCC is again a partner with the Barwon Region Waste Management Group in its Summer Litter Campaign.
This year's message is 'Stop Litter Where It Starts' a 'Cleaner Coast & Cleaner Otways Is In Your Hands'.
The group's mobile billboard is currently in Apollo Bay on the foreshore opposite Thomson Street and will be in town for the Seafood Festival and the Music Festival.
Everyone is encouraged to 'do the right thing'.
For those who don't know we now have the EPA's mobile phone app. It allows anyone who witnesses litter to report it immediately via their phone.
Check it out at www.epa.vic.gov.au/reportlitter or call 1300 372 842 (1300 EPA VIC) to report a litterer.
Free Camping on the Foreshore
In response to community concerns about the number of campervans staying overnight along our foreshore areas, the OCC worked with Colac Otway Shire to develop appropriate signage.
Over the last two months the OCC has progressively installed signs along the coast at foreshore car parks. We believe the signs have had a real impact on the number of campervans and on people sleeping in cars along our foreshore.
